The CVC family kicked off the 2016 season in style with a poolside cocktail party on Saturday night! With lots of food, great people, upbeat music, corn hole and some amazing raffle prizes, the evening was a lot of fun and a huge success. Thanks to everyone who helped organize and who attended!
Congratulations to CVC Swimmers

From Pizza to Strawberries and Cream
There’s been a lot happening around CVC lately. Down at the pool, members gathered for the visit of the Big Green Pizza Truck, while up at the courts, people feasted on cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream while they watched the Wimbledon final.

Ladies Margarita Social
Thanks to CVC member Laura DeGennaro for sharing this photo and report.
Wednesday evening provided another fun CVC Wednesday ladies tennis night, but it was also the annual margarita social for the ladies after they played their matches! About 30+ women played in 4 relaxed round-robin rotations of tennis! All skill levels were welcomed, and all had fun on a beautiful night! Afterwards Jim Matthews, head tennis pro, along with his staff, provided margaritas, while the ladies provided a variety of yummy appetizers to share and enjoy! There were raffles for the players such as one-on-one lessons given by Jim or his son Scott, another CVC pro and head coach of the CHS girls tennis team, CVC apparel, wristbands, water bottles, and the like. Lori Mann said, “Ladies night is something I always look forward to and between the laughter, sportsmanship, and cocktails I am never disappointed!” Beth Pierpont said, “Margarita Social is one of my favorite CVC events!” and Neeta Vatti said, “Jim and his staff always do a great job making it a fun night. As usual, one of the best nights of the summer!” So, if you play tennis and you like to have fun, then join us on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m!

Championship Sunday: Filipek Tennis Tournament
Congratulations to the champions and finalists in the 2015 Filipek Tennis Tournament. Copper Valley Club was proud to host for the second year, and it was thrilling to see great matches and crowds of tennis fans from throughout the region cheering on the players.
Now in its 11th year, the Filipek has given over $100,000 in scholarships to Connecticut student athletes.
See below for a short video of what was perhaps the crowd’s favorite match, as well as results from throughout the tournament.
Champions and Finalists
(Not all champions and finalists are pictured.)
There were many fantastic matches throughout the tournament. The Men C Singles final, though, was perhaps the one that caused the most crowd reaction. It had started at 8 a.m., and by the time the players were nearing the end of a third set tiebreaker at 11 a.m., quite a crowd had gathered to cheer on the players.
Congratulations to all the players and to the Filipek Tennis Tournament.

Copper Valley Club’s float in the Memorial Day parade
Did you see Copper Valley Club’s float at Cheshire’s Memorial Day parade?
CVC’s float in the parade represented the club well, with kids cooling off in a pool and adults relaxing in lounge chairs, as members hit tennis balls back and forth over their heads.
Copper Valley Club passed out complimentary sunglasses and day passes to our Family Fun Day, an open house on June 20. Please invite your friends and neighbors to join us.

Family Fun Day a Smashing Success
We were so glad to welcome back members and meet some new families during our Family Fun Day yesterday. Down at the pool, kids participated in a biggest splash contest, sidewalk art, and piñata smashing, while up at the tennis courts, Carl led players in two rounds of Olympics. Players tested the speed of their tennis serves as well. Carl served the fastest, clocking in at 100 miles per hour! Will someone break the record this season?
If you couldn’t make it to Family Fun Day, please check back for our next event, or email us at coppervalleynews@gmail.com to arrange for a tour.
